How to change the root password in Ubuntu

I have some unix experience, but I am new to ubuntu and still in WinXP thought-mode. I recently installed ubuntu and noticed that when I did a sudo the system asked for my password, the user pw that I entered when I installed ubuntu.



So in a ubuntu terminal I changed the root pw:

$ sudo passwd

So now I have a changed root pw, but when I do a:

$ su

I am prompted for a password, but when I do a:

$ sudo su

Ubuntu Applications to Monitor Bandwidth Usage

vnStat


vnStat is a commandline-based bandwidth monitoring tool which runs on Linux and BSD platforms. In ubuntu you can install it by:
sudo apt-get install vnstat
Once it is installed, just type vnstat to view traffic logs. vnStat can monitor specific networks only and it creates a separate database for each network interface. You can even view the logs in your browser. This post has detailed instructions about how to do the same.
